SUMMARY:The Tiffin Project for Teens! (Woodstock)
DESCRIPTION:The Tiffin Project for Teens!\nSaturday March 21st 2026\n1:00 PM – 2:00 PM\nWoodstock Library\n10 Dixon Ave. Woodstock NY\nSingle-use packaging (like food take-out containers) are wasteful products that are used once\, for a very short period of time\, before being discarded in a landfill where they may take hundreds of years to “break down.” These wasteful single-use products add up to make a big impact on our planet and communities. Luckily\, “low-waste living” and the “Bring Your Own” movement has inspired many people to choose reuse when dining or shopping on-the-go. \nThis workshop is designed for young adults who want to learn about the impact that “take-out” or “to-go” containers have on litter and waterways. Participants will also be introduced to how single use plastics may also affect our health. Most importantly\, participants will learn about the power of reuse through “tiffins” which are reusable stainless steel food containers\, and other ways to avoid single use items when dining on the go! \nAll participants who pre-register will receive a free tiffin at the end of the workshop\, compliments of Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency. This program will be presented by Angelina Brandt\, UCRRA Director of Sustainability at Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency. \nPlease note: this class is for all ages! All are welcome to attend.  \nSign Up Now! \nInclusive\, accessible classrooms are important to us. Accessibility: Woodstock Library offers 2 handicap accessible parking spaces near the entrance\, and it is a flat walkway to the front door. The facility has a lift to accommodate those who need assistance to the second floor\, where the class will be held. The Library does not require face masks or social distancing; but encourages visitors to practices these if they are comfortable doing so. UCRRA strives to offer equal program opportunities. If you require any special accommodations or have questions about this program\, please contact APEO@UCRRA.ORG or 845-336-3336. \nAbout the Tiffin Project: This project was previously made possible by the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute (NYSP2I) and their Community Grants Program. We share our special thanks to NYS P2I!  The “Ulster County Tiffin Project” (2024) aimed to increase community awareness about the impact of waste reduction and reuse as pollution prevention strategies. Tiffins are multi-tiered\, reusable\, metal food containers that replace wasteful\, nonrecyclable to-go containers when dining out. The project addressed pollution prevention by providing residents with FREE reusable\, stainless steel Tiffin containers that eliminate their single-use\, disposable counterparts. The Project called on community members to rethink waste through zero waste practices\, resulting in improved public health and environmental conservation. Through innovative community engagement\,  our Tiffin Project workshop series explored the amount of single use packaging waste generated from food service\, the environmental harms and potential health harms associated with single use packaging\, and those items most likely to become litter\, and together we will celebrate the many benefits of reusable alternatives! SUMMARY:Make Your Own Bokashi Bran (New Paltz)
DESCRIPTION:Make Your Own Bokashi Bran\nSaturday March 7th 2026\n12:00 PM – 2:00 PM\nNew Paltz Community Center\n3 Veterans Drive\, New Paltz\, NY\nMake your own bokashi bran in this fun\, hands-on workshop and learn how it’s used to ferment food scraps into nutrient-rich compost. Bokashi composting is an anaerobic process that breaks down food scraps in a sealed\, air-tight container using beneficial microbes. Bokashi bran is the key ingredient—it’s a grain-based material inoculated with these microbes\, which jump-start fermentation and make it possible to compost foods like meat\, bones\, and dairy. After fermenting\, scraps are added to a compost pile to finish decomposing\, helping speed up the overall composting process. Participants will leave with enough bokashi bran to ferment up to 20 gallons of food scraps\, making this workshop ideal for adults looking for a simple and effective way to sustainably manage food scraps at home all year long. \n* Supplies Are Limited *  Please register to ensure your spot! \nThis workshop will be presented by Eva Barnett\, Recycling and Composting Educator at the UCRRA. \nSign Up Now! Inclusive\, accessible classrooms are important to us. Accessibility:The Town of New Paltz Community Center does not provide accessibility as prescribed by the 2010 Americans with Disabilities Act. The Center does offer a ground-floor meeting area\, accessible parking spaces\, and is accessible from the parking area to the front doors. The front doors are not automated. We’ll start by talking about why composting is important and how it helps our planet. We’ll read Compost Stew by Mary McKenna Siddals\, a playful ABC book that introduces kids to the idea of composting and what goes into making healthy soil. Kids will then get to meet real Red Wiggler Worms and take a peek inside a live worm bin! We’ll learn what worms eat\, how they live\, and how they turn food scraps into super-powered fertilizer. To wrap up\, we’ll get creative making seed bombs—little balls of clay\, compost\, and wildflower seeds that kids can take home to plant and help pollinators like bees and butterflies.\nThis program is perfect for ages 5–8 \nAccessibility: There is a large parking lot in the back and ADA accessible spaces across from the front door. There is also handicap parking and we are located on one floor with no steps. \nWe strive to offer equal program opportunities. Educational resources in Spanish are available by request. If you require any special accommodations or have questions about this program\, please contact Eva Barnett\, Recycling Educator\, at EBAR@UCRRA.ORG or 845-336-3336. \nSign Up for this Class! SUMMARY:Eco-Friendly Home! DIY Cleaners & More (Pine Hill)
DESCRIPTION:Eco Friendly Home: DIY Cleaners & More\nWednesday\, May 28th 2025\n1:00 – 3:00 PM\nPine Hill Community Center\n287 Main Street Pine Hill\, NY 12467\nWe all have favorite household products that we rely on because they work well. It could be anything from a preferred cleaner to a preferred toothpaste. Some of the brands and products we’ve grown to love contain chemicals that don’t love us back. Bleach\, ammonia\, and oven cleaners are examples of chemical cleaning agents that can irritate our skin\, eyes\, and respiratory tract. Some beauty products also contain fragrances and chemicals whose health risks are still unknown. Many of these products are also classified as Hazardous Waste and require safe disposal. \nAlthough eco-friendly alternatives are becoming more widely available in stores\, you can easily make your own at home with very simple and low-cost ingredients! Curious? Join us at our Eco-Friendly Home workshop to learn how to make your own products that are better for the environment\, your health\, and your wallet! \nThis class will be hosted in-person by Eva Barnett\, UCRRA’s Recycling Educator\, in collaboration with the Pine Hill Community Center. After a short presentation with several demos\, participants will leave with their own recipes and DIY Products. All class materials are provided. \nSign up Now!\nAccessibility: This class will take place indoors on the ground floor of the Community Center. The facility is wheelchair accessible.
