SUMMARY:The Tiffin Project for Teens! (Woodstock)
DESCRIPTION:The Tiffin Project for Teens!\nSaturday March 21st 2026\n1:00 PM – 2:00 PM\nWoodstock Library\n10 Dixon Ave. Woodstock NY\nSingle-use packaging (like food take-out containers) are wasteful products that are used once\, for a very short period of time\, before being discarded in a landfill where they may take hundreds of years to “break down.” These wasteful single-use products add up to make a big impact on our planet and communities. Luckily\, “low-waste living” and the “Bring Your Own” movement has inspired many people to choose reuse when dining or shopping on-the-go. \nThis workshop is designed for young adults who want to learn about the impact that “take-out” or “to-go” containers have on litter and waterways. Participants will also be introduced to how single use plastics may also affect our health. Most importantly\, participants will learn about the power of reuse through “tiffins” which are reusable stainless steel food containers\, and other ways to avoid single use items when dining on the go! \nAll participants who pre-register will receive a free tiffin at the end of the workshop\, compliments of Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency. This program will be presented by Angelina Brandt\, UCRRA Director of Sustainability at Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency. \nPlease note: this class is for all ages! All are welcome to attend.  \nSign Up Now! \nInclusive\, accessible classrooms are important to us. Accessibility: Woodstock Library offers 2 handicap accessible parking spaces near the entrance\, and it is a flat walkway to the front door. The facility has a lift to accommodate those who need assistance to the second floor\, where the class will be held. The Library does not require face masks or social distancing; but encourages visitors to practices these if they are comfortable doing so. UCRRA strives to offer equal program opportunities. If you require any special accommodations or have questions about this program\, please contact APEO@UCRRA.ORG or 845-336-3336. \nAbout the Tiffin Project: This project was previously made possible by the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute (NYSP2I) and their Community Grants Program. We share our special thanks to NYS P2I!  The “Ulster County Tiffin Project” (2024) aimed to increase community awareness about the impact of waste reduction and reuse as pollution prevention strategies. Tiffins are multi-tiered\, reusable\, metal food containers that replace wasteful\, nonrecyclable to-go containers when dining out. The project addressed pollution prevention by providing residents with FREE reusable\, stainless steel Tiffin containers that eliminate their single-use\, disposable counterparts. The Project called on community members to rethink waste through zero waste practices\, resulting in improved public health and environmental conservation. Through innovative community engagement\,  our Tiffin Project workshop series explored the amount of single use packaging waste generated from food service\, the environmental harms and potential health harms associated with single use packaging\, and those items most likely to become litter\, and together we will celebrate the many benefits of reusable alternatives! SUMMARY:Make Your Own Bokashi Bran (New Paltz)
DESCRIPTION:Make Your Own Bokashi Bran\nSaturday March 7th 2026\n12:00 PM – 2:00 PM\nNew Paltz Community Center\n3 Veterans Drive\, New Paltz\, NY\nMake your own bokashi bran in this fun\, hands-on workshop and learn how it’s used to ferment food scraps into nutrient-rich compost. Bokashi composting is an anaerobic process that breaks down food scraps in a sealed\, air-tight container using beneficial microbes. Bokashi bran is the key ingredient—it’s a grain-based material inoculated with these microbes\, which jump-start fermentation and make it possible to compost foods like meat\, bones\, and dairy. After fermenting\, scraps are added to a compost pile to finish decomposing\, helping speed up the overall composting process. Participants will leave with enough bokashi bran to ferment up to 20 gallons of food scraps\, making this workshop ideal for adults looking for a simple and effective way to sustainably manage food scraps at home all year long. \n* Supplies Are Limited *  Please register to ensure your spot! \nThis workshop will be presented by Eva Barnett\, Recycling and Composting Educator at the UCRRA. \nSign Up Now! Inclusive\, accessible classrooms are important to us. Accessibility:The Town of New Paltz Community Center does not provide accessibility as prescribed by the 2010 Americans with Disabilities Act. The Center does offer a ground-floor meeting area\, accessible parking spaces\, and is accessible from the parking area to the front doors. The front doors are not automated. For assistance entering the building\, please contact the Community Center at 845-255-2512.\n \nShare This Event!

SUMMARY:Eco-Friendly Home! DIY Cleaners & More (Pine Hill)
DESCRIPTION:Eco Friendly Home: DIY Cleaners & More\nWednesday\, May 28th 2025\n1:00 – 3:00 PM\nPine Hill Community Center\n287 Main Street Pine Hill\, NY 12467\nWe all have favorite household products that we rely on because they work well. It could be anything from a preferred cleaner to a preferred toothpaste. Some of the brands and products we’ve grown to love contain chemicals that don’t love us back. Bleach\, ammonia\, and oven cleaners are examples of chemical cleaning agents that can irritate our skin\, eyes\, and respiratory tract. Some beauty products also contain fragrances and chemicals whose health risks are still unknown. Many of these products are also classified as Hazardous Waste and require safe disposal. \nAlthough eco-friendly alternatives are becoming more widely available in stores\, you can easily make your own at home with very simple and low-cost ingredients! Curious? Join us at our Eco-Friendly Home workshop to learn how to make your own products that are better for the environment\, your health\, and your wallet! \nThis class will be hosted in-person by Eva Barnett\, UCRRA’s Recycling Educator\, in collaboration with the Pine Hill Community Center. After a short presentation with several demos\, participants will leave with their own recipes and DIY Products. All class materials are provided. \nSign up Now!\nAccessibility: This class will take place indoors on the ground floor of the Community Center. The facility is wheelchair accessible. Reserved seating is available by request; please contact Eva Barnett at EBAR@UCRRA.ORG. SUMMARY:Plastic People: The Hidden Crisis of Microplastics
DESCRIPTION:The Marbletown Environmental Commission (ECC) & Rosendale Environmental Commission (REC) have partnered to present a special Earth Week screening and Q&A with community leaders and experts. A portion of ticket sales will go towards screening another environmental film in the future. \nThe screening will include a post-film panel and Q&A discussion featuring: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJen Metzger\, Ulster County Executive\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMarc Rider\, Executive Director Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency (UCRRA)\nMegan Wolff\, PhD.\, MPH\, Executive Director P-SNAP\, the Physician and Scientist Network Addressing Plastics and Health\n\nCost-saving solutions for addressing the challenges of toxic plastics will be offered by our local sponsors including: High Falls Food Co-op\, Second Nature Refillery\, and Climate Smart Tiffin Project. Visit their tables 6:30-7pm and following the Q&A. \nAbout the film: The ground-breaking feature documentary Plastic People investigates our addiction to plastic and the growing threat of microplastics on human health. Almost every bit of plastic ever made breaks down into “microplastics.” These microscopic particles drift in the air\, float in all bodies of water\, and mix into the soil\, becoming a permanent part of the environment. Now\, leading scientists are finding these particles in our bodies: organs\, blood\, brain tissue\, and even the placentas of new mothers. What is the impact of these invisible invaders on our health? And can anything be done about it? Acclaimed author and science journalist Ziya Tong takes a personal approach by visiting leading scientists around the world and undergoing experiments in her home\, on her food\, and her body while collaborating with award-winning director Ben Addelman in an urgent call to action for all of us to rethink our relationship with plastic. \nThis screening event is presented by White Pine Pictures in partnership with the Marbletown Environmental Conservation Commission and Rosendale Environmental Commission. \nPlastic People has been accompanied by a state-of-the-art impact campaign to empower viewers with knowledge and encourage positive change. As Ziya Tong remarks\, “The goal is to motivate people to action\, not to fear.” \nPlastic People: The Hidden Crisis of Microplastics is produced by award-winning WhitePine Pictures in association with TELUS independent; Written and Directed by BenAddelman and Co-Directed by Ziya Tong; Produced by Vanessa Dylyn and Stephen Paniccia; and Executive Produced by Peter Raymont\, Rick Smith and Steve Ord. The film is produced with the participation of The Canada Media Fund\, Telefilm Canada\, and Ontario Creates. \nFor more information contact Lisa Giannico\, Marbletown ECC\, at lisado212@gmail.com \nLearn More About This Event

SUMMARY:Ulster County Tiffin Project (SUNY NEW PALTZ)
DESCRIPTION:…. \nThursday\, November 14th\, 2024\n12:30 PM – 2:30 PM\nSUNY NEW PALTZ –  Coykendall Science Building\, Auditorium\n1 Hawk Dr\, New Paltz\, NY 12561\nThis special event is open to the general public – all are welcome! \nSingle-use packaging (like food take-out containers) are wasteful products that are used once\, for a very short period of time\, before being discarded in a landfill where they may take hundreds of years to “break down.” The environmental\, social\, and financial impacts of these wasteful single use products add up to make a big impact on our planet\, communities\, and local businesses. Luckily\, “low-waste living” and the “Bring Your Own” movement has inspired many people to make a difference by choosing to reuse when dining or shopping on-the-go. \nThis event is hosted by the SUNY New Paltz Department of Geography and Environmental Studies. Join the UCRRA Recycling Outreach Team\, New Paltz Climate Action Coalition & Climate Smart New Paltz for an engaging presentation and discussion about the benefits of reuse as a way to prevent pollution. At this special event\, participants will learn about the waste-climate connection and the lifecycle of some common single use food take-out containers. Come learn why choosing to reuse is not only better for our planet\, but may also be better for our health. \nAs a participant\, you will receive a FREE Tiffin (stainless steel\, reusable food containers)! Join us and together\, let’s unlock the full power and potential of reuse! Registration for this event is required. Class size may be limited. Please reserve your seat by completing the sign-up form and survey questions linked below. \nPlease note: While the entire event experience is up to 2 hours\, attendees can choose to stay for the Q&A or claim their tiffin at any point after the presentation has ended. Visit our tiffin distribution station to chat with event organizers and take the pledge to choose to reuse!\n\n\nAgenda:\n75 minutes presentation\n25 minutes Q&A\n20 minutes to take the pledge & claim your tiffin!\n\n…. \nSIGN UP NOW!…. \n\n\n\n…. \nAccessibility Statement: [SUNY New Paltz] strive[s] to host inclusive\, accessible events that enable all individuals\, including individuals with disabilities\, to engage fully.
