DESCRIPTION:The Tiffin Project for Teens!\nSaturday March 21st 2026\n1:00 PM – 2:00 PM\nWoodstock Library\n10 Dixon Ave. Woodstock NY\nSingle-use packaging (like food take-out containers) are wasteful products that are used once\, for a very short period of time\, before being discarded in a landfill where they may take hundreds of years to “break down.” These wasteful single-use products add up to make a big impact on our planet and communities. Luckily\, “low-waste living” and the “Bring Your Own” movement has inspired many people to choose reuse when dining or shopping on-the-go. \nThis workshop is designed for young adults who want to learn about the impact that “take-out” or “to-go” containers have on litter and waterways. Participants will also be introduced to how single use plastics may also affect our health. Most importantly\, participants will learn about the power of reuse through “tiffins” which are reusable stainless steel food containers\, and other ways to avoid single use items when dining on the go! \nAll participants who pre-register will receive a free tiffin at the end of the workshop\, compliments of Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency. This program will be presented by Angelina Brandt\, UCRRA Director of Sustainability at Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency. \nPlease note: this class is for all ages! All are welcome to attend.  \nSign Up Now!  \nInclusive\, accessible classrooms are important to us. Accessibility: Woodstock Library offers 2 handicap accessible parking spaces near the entrance\, and it is a flat walkway to the front door. The facility has a lift to accommodate those who need assistance to the second floor\, where the class will be held. We share our special thanks to NYS P2I!  The “Ulster County Tiffin Project” (2024) aimed to increase community awareness about the impact of waste reduction and reuse as pollution prevention strategies. Tiffins are multi-tiered\, reusable\, metal food containers that replace wasteful\, nonrecyclable to-go containers when dining out. The project addressed pollution prevention by providing residents with FREE reusable\, stainless steel Tiffin containers that eliminate their single-use\, disposable counterparts. The Project called on community members to rethink waste through zero waste practices\, resulting in improved public health and environmental conservation. Through innovative community engagement\,  our Tiffin Project workshop series explored the amount of single use packaging waste generated from food service\, the environmental harms and potential health harms associated with single use packaging\, and those items most likely to become litter\, and together we will celebrate the many benefits of reusable alternatives! DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, July 14th\, 2024\n10:00 AM – 2:00 PM\nsessions beginning 10am\, 11am\, 12pm\, 1pm\nPhoenicia Farmers Market\nADDRESS Phoenicia\, NYSingle-use packaging (like food take-out containers) are wasteful products that are used once\, for a very short period of time\, before being discarded in a landfill where they may take hundreds of years to “break down.” The environmental\, social\, and financial impacts of these wasteful single use products add up to make a big impact on our planet\, communities\, and local businesses. Luckily\, “low-waste living” and the “Bring Your Own” movement has inspired many people to make a difference by choosing to reuse when dining or shopping on-the-go. \nJoin the UCRRA Recycling Outreach Team and Shandaken Conservation Advisory Council & Climate Smart Task Force for an engaging presentation and discussion about the benefits of reuse as a way to prevent pollution. At this special event\, participants will learn about the waste-climate connection and the lifecycle of some common single use food take-out containers. Come learn why choosing to reuse is not only better for our planet but may also be better for our health. \nAs a participant\, you will receive a FREE Tiffin (stainless steel\, reusable food containers)! Join us and together\, let’s unlock the full power and potential of reuse! Sign-up is preferred but walk-ins will also be allowed.
