| FreeFall Seminar: Intro to Home Composting
Thursday, October 6th 2022
6:00-7:30 PM
Rosendale Public Library
264 Main St. Rosendale, NY 12472
Home composting is a great way to manage food scraps like fruit and vegetable peels, coffee grounds, stale bread, eggshells, and other scraps or spoiled foods. When food is landfilled, it’s responsible for most of the environmental pollution coming from landfills. But when food and other plant materials are mixed together in a backyard bin or pile, this material can be recycled into garden compost!
This free workshop is designed for new/beginner composters that have little or no knowledge about composting systems. The class will introduce the benefits of organics recycling, and review some of the science behind how composting works, and the principles of how to do it correctly.
Participants will learn everything they need to know to get started and gain knowledge about the various compost bin options and the pros and cons of each. Each participant will go home with a free kitchen food scrap collection container to help them get started!
At the end of the seminar, participants will learn why using compost is beneficial for soil health, and will learn how to use their compost right in their own backyard.
This class will be offered in person at the Town of Rosendale Public Library, with hosts Angelina Brandt, Director of Sustainability and Tanesia White, Recycling Educator of the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency. Please pre-register by Monday, October 3rd. Register by clicking the button below.
Accessibility: This event will take place in the outdoor gazebo behind the library, which is a short walk from the parking area along a paved surface. There is one stair to enter into the gazebo. Accessible bathrooms are available indoors. Please dress for Fall weather as this will be an outdoor event.
