INSTRUCTIONS
The NYS Battery Recycling Act of 2010 expressly does not cover any non-rechargeable, single-use batteries such as common alkaline batteries. Learn more about the Rechargeable Battery Law here. UCRRA does not accept alkaline batteries. Non-rechargeable alkaline batteries are not considered hazardous and can be safely disposed of in the trash or otherwise brought to a special take-back program described below. DO NOT put batteries in the recycling bin.
OTHER OPTIONS:
Some retailers may accept alkaline batteries, even though they are not a covered product by NYS law. Check with local stores STAPLES and TARGET. Residents or businesses with large amounts of batteries may look into mail-back options such as: Big Green Box info@biggreenbox.com, E-Lot Recycling (518) 266-9385, American Lamp Recycling at 1-800-315-6262, Best Buy at (845) 336-4090 or visit Call2Recycle.org.
