INSTRUCTIONS

Single-use plastics (including plastic straws) are NOT acceptable for recycling at UCRRA or participating Town Transfer Stations. Beverage straws are widely not accepted for recycling by curbside collection services as well.

The Ulster County Skip the Straw Act, Local Law Number 2 of 2019, provides that single use plastic straws can be made available to patrons of restaurants and fast food establishments only upon the customer’s request. This law was later amended by Local Law Number 7 of 2019 to include plastic stirrers, plastic cutlery and condiment packets.

OTHER OPTIONS

There are many durable, reusable, plastic-free alternatives to single use disposable items. Look for bamboo or stainless steel travel kits wherever you would shop for reusable food storage items – or simply bring your own from home!
