The Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency (UCRRA) is pursuing the implementation of a project known as the Reuse Pathway for Zero Waste and Economic Resilience (ReP0WER), which builds on a previous feasibility study and plan funded by Ulster County (https://www.sustainhv.org/reuse-innovation-center).
The ReP0WER project is part of UCRRA’s efforts to reduce the reliance on landfills and incinerators to handle the 140,000 tons of municipal solid waste generated annually by Ulster County residents, businesses and institutions. Once implemented, the ReP0WER project seeks to establish a network of sites throughout the county to collect reusable goods and materials, and a central hub facility in the Kingston area to serve as a warehouse, retail store, wholesale clearinghouse, and incubator for reuse businesses to repair, refurbish or upcycle unused materials.
UCRRA is currently working with Ulster County, local municipalities and NYS DEC to finalize plans for the hub and spokes facilities and is finalizing cost estimates for the project.
