INSTRUCTIONS
A textile is any type of material made by weaving, knitting, crocheting, or bonding fibers together. In addition to clothing and shoes, other fabrics like linens (blankets, towels, curtains, tablecloths, etc.) and fashion accessories (hats, bags, belts, gloves, etc.) are also textiles.
DO NOT put textiles in your home recycling bin or in the trash. Most fabric can be reused or recovered through special textile recycling programs.
Unwanted clothing, linens, and other textiles in good, usable condition can be donated for reuse. Visit our list of clothing reuse organizations to find a thrift store near you.
Clothing or other textiles in poor, damaged conditioned (but are clean, odorless, and dry and are NOT wet, moldy, bloody, etc.) can be recycled in a clothing and textile collection bin. Unless expressly stated on the collection boxes, most boxes can accept and recycle damaged fabrics. Visit our map of clothing donation bins (blue icons in the map) or visit NYSAR’s Locator Tool for more locations outside of Ulster County.
In addition to many other clothing drop off bins in the community, UCRRA has textile recycling collection bins in the parking lots of both Ulster & New Paltz facilities – accessible during our normal business hours.
