Bokashi is a fermentation method that uses beneficial microbes to break down all food scraps—including meat, dairy, and bones—in a sealed kitchen container. After a few weeks, the resulting pre-compost finishes quickly in a backyard pile, providing a more biologically diverse compost product. Learn the science behind this method of managing food scraps, the tools you need for this system, step by step instructions on the process and a recipe for making your own bokashi bran.
