Intro to Composting!

International Compost Awareness Week

Saturday, May 30th 2026

11 AM – 12:30 PM

Town of Ulster Public Library

860 Ulster Ave

Kingston, NY

Compost Happens! You don’t have to be an expert to be successful at backyard composting; you just need to learn a few basic tips and tricks to get cooking. It’s science; but it’s not rocket science!

Join the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency’s Recycling Outreach Team for a community conversation about Home Composting Basics. This free workshop is designed for composters who are exploring the different options and methods. The class will introduce the benefits of home composting and the principles of how to do it correctly (balancing browns and greens, avoiding animals, maintenance tips and more). Then, participants will learn the pros and cons when comparing different bins to find the perfect option no matter your situation. This class will also cover all the ways you can use finished compost to boost your garden’s soil health. It’s Compost Awareness Week! Let’s Feed the Soil that Feeds Us!

Class size is limited and participants must pre-register. Register by clicking the button below and we will see you in the garden!

Accessibility: There is a large parking lot in the back and ADA accessible spaces across from the front door. There is also handicap parking and we are located on one floor with no steps.

We strive to offer equal program opportunities. If you require any special accommodations or have questions about this program, please contact APEO@UCRRA.ORG or 845-336-3336.
