Paint Care New York to Launch in 2022

PaintCare Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, representing paint manufacturers (paint producers) and paint stewardship programs in U.S. states where paint stewardship laws have been adopted. New York State Paint Stewardship Law was enacted December 16, 2019, and the PaintCare NY Program launched May 1, 2022. It is now even more convenient to recycle paint in Ulster County and across New York State! Latex paint is now accepted at HHW events, and is accepted at other drop off locations in Kingston including Herzogs and Sherwin Williams. Visit PaintCareNY to learn more.

PLEASE REVIEW THE PROGRAM RULES BEFORE MAKING YOUR APPOINTMENT

ULSTER COUNTY RESIDENTS ONLY. This program is for Ulster County residents only. UCRRA will check residency status to confirm only Ulster County residential waste is accepted at these events. If UCRRA suspects that waste is originating from a commercial business or enterprise, UCRRA reserves the right to deny entrance to this event.

APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED. UCRRA reserves the right to deny entrance to any person who has not made an appointment. Appointments are required and this policy is strictly enforced.

PUT ITEMS IN THE TRUNK OF YOUR VEHICLE. All containers should be sealed and placed in a large cardboard box in the trunk of your vehicle. This is for your safety, to reduce spillage in your vehicle, and helps us unload your vehicle quickly and easily. Trucks: secure items in the rear truck bed. Secure any fluorescent lightbulbs or ballasts so they don’t break during transport.

KEEP ITEMS IN ORIGINAL CONTAINERS.  If a product is unknown or doesn’t have a label, contact UCRRA 2-3 weeks before the event for special instructions. Call 845-336-0600 or email APEO@UCRRA.ORG

YOUR CONTAINERS WILL NOT BE RETURNED. Please be advised that any boxes, crates, gasoline cans, and other containers will not be returned under any circumstances.

MEDICATIONS ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTED. Bring medications to your local Police Department or the Ulster County Sherriff Department for free, anonymous safe disposal of medications.

QUANTITY LIMITS. Each household is limited to 220 lbs. or a 25 gallon equivalent. No containers larger than 5 gallons will be accepted. UCRRA reserves the right to judge the amount of waste per household.

YOU MAY EXPERIENCE A WAITING PERIOD. These events are highly attended! Our staff works hard to keep the line of cars moving safely and steadily, which is why you must schedule an appointment . Please arrive at your exact scheduled appointment time. Thank you for your cooperation.

UNAUTHORIZED WASTE.  UCRRA reserves the right to turn away persons bringing large quantities of waste, or unauthorized wastes. Review the full list of acceptable/unacceptable items carefully and contact us with any questions.

REDUCE YOUR USE. There are many nontoxic alternatives to hazardous chemicals. Keep your home and family safe by always storing chemicals safely in a locked cabinet or elevated location out of reach of children and pets, and away from furnaces, electrical panels or wiring, or near other heat sources. Make sure containers are properly labeled. Read warning labels and follow directions.

CANCELLATIONS. If you are unable to come to the event, please share the courtesy of calling us to cancel your appointment as soon as possible. Only as limited number of appointment slots are available and this program is in high demand, usually with a waiting list for any cancellations.

MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING. All participants are encouraged to wear a mask when interacting with our staff. We service hundreds of residents on HHW days. Also, please stay in your vehicle at all times.
