NEW PROGRAM RULES FOR COVID-19 AND SOCIAL DISTANCING

PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING YOUR APPOINTMENT

HHW Program Rules

  • MANDATORY MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING. All participants and event staff are asked to wear a mask or face covering. For public safety and for social distancing, all participants must remain in their vehicle at all times.
  • PUT ALL ITEMS IN THE TRUNK OF YOUR CAR. This will allow us to unload your vehicle in a no-contact manner, for ease of unloading and for social distancing purposes.
  • NO MEDICATIONS.  Medications will no longer be accepted at the HHW events.  For a medication drop-off location please click here.
  • ULSTER COUNTY RESIDENTS ONLY. Participants must be a resident of Ulster County, and the waste must be generated in a home, not affiliated with any commercial business, nonprofit, or institution. All participants must sign a Declaration of Residency and Non-Commercial Waste statement.
  • APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED. Registration will open several weeks before the scheduled collection event. Appointments are required to accommodate the high number of participants and to ensure that you understand the program rules and acceptable items. Please arrive at your approximate scheduled appointment time.
  • A QUANTITY LIMIT WILL BE ENFORCED.  Each household may bring up to 220 lbs or a 25 gallon equivalent of the accepted items. No containers larger than 5 gallons will be accepted. UCRRA staff may make a judgment on the quantity of material each household is allowed to bring.
  • NO UNAUTHORIZED WASTE WILL BE ACCEPTED.  UCRRA reserves the right to turn away persons bringing large quantities of waste, waste suspected to be originating from a commercial business, or any unauthorized wastes. It is very important that participants review our acceptable/unacceptable item list and contact the Agency with any questions.
  • KEEP ITEMS IN ORIGINAL CONTAINERS.  If a product is unknown or doesn’t have a label, contact UCRRA 2-3 weeks before the event.
  • YOUR CONTAINERS WILL NOT BE RETURNED. Boxes, gas cans, and other containers will not be returned.
  • STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE.  Authorized personnel will unload your vehicle for you.
  • REMINDERS. You will receive an email reminders before the event. You are not required to bring reminders with you.
  • CANCELLATIONS. If you are unable to make it to the event, please call to cancel your appointment as soon as possible and no later than the Friday before the event.
  • Aerosols (spray cans)
  • Automotive cleaners & fluids (antifreeze, brake fluid, transmission fluid, oil filters, etc.) – NO MOTOR OIL
  • Bug spray, insecticides, rat poisons, mothballs, etc.
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s, UV, tubes, spirals, etc.)
  • Household cleaners (oven, toilet, drain, carpet, window, bleach, disinfectant, all-purpose, etc.)
  • Lawn & garden chemicals (pesticides, fertilizers, etc.)
  • Lead and oil-based paints, including spray paints.
  • Mercury, thermostats, thermometers
  • Mineral spirits, turpentine
  • Photography chemicals
  • Pool chemicals
  • Stains, varnishes, etc.
  • Sealants, adhesives, etc.
  • Waste fuels (kerosene, gasoline, propane, etc.)
  • Wood cleaners & stains (polishes, waxes, varnishes, sealants, etc.)

These items are NOT ACCEPTED. 

  • NO Latex Paint
  • NO Motor Oil
  • NO Batteries (except car batteries)
  • NO Explosives, ammunition, gun powder, or fireworks
  • NO Asbestos
  • NO Radioactive materials
  • NO Large drums or waste in containers larger than 5 gallons
  • NO Smoke detectors
  • NO Empty containers
  • NO Electronic items (computers, televisions, etc.)
  • NO Medical waste – (SHARPS, home-use medical needles) or other etiological, pathological waste
  • NO Beauty products
  • NO Pharmaceuticals – Find a drop-off location near you
  • NO Waste from businesses, schools, farms, etc. These facilities must contact a Hazardous Waste/Environmental Services Company.
