INSTRUCTIONS

Manual (non-electric) plastic or wooden toothbrushes are NOT recyclable. Do not place toothbrushes in the recycling bin. Discard an old, used toothbrush in normal bagged trash, or otherwise, consider creative ways to reuse and upcycle an old toothbrush, like using it for house cleaning, polishing, etc.

Battery Powered and Electric toothbrushes: These types of embedded battery products may have limited recycling options locally. Follow the guidelines in the user manual if the battery can be safely removed. Look for any mail-back programs or instructions from the manufacturer. If possible, remove the battery at the end of the device’s useful life and recycle any rechargeable batteries in accordance with NYS’s Battery Recycling law;  visit a local retail business that participates in a consumer take-back program. Find local battery recycling options online at: the Battery Network.

Please note that while an electric toothbrush is not considered a covered product under NYS’s Electronic Reuse and Recycling Act, the chargers/cords associated with the device may be acceptable as electronic waste.
