FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency is inviting community members to apply to join its Zero Waste Committee. The Committee serves in an advisory role to the UCRRA Board of Directors and is intended to strengthen communication between the public and the Board while helping improve public understanding of UCRRA’s work and priorities. UCRRA expects to appoint up to three community members to serve in an advisory capacity on the Committee.

UCRRA is seeking applicants with practical, hands-on experience in zero waste, recycling, reuse, composting, organics diversion, environmental education, or related materials management work. The goal is to bring informed community voices into the conversation and create a stronger link between UCRRA and the public. “This is an opportunity to bring practical knowledge, thoughtful ideas, and community perspective into a more structured conversation that can help inform the Board and strengthen public trust,” said Chris Hurlbert, Chair of the Zero Waste Committee.

Applicants should submit a resume and a brief cover letter explaining their interest in serving, their relevant experience, and the value they believe they would bring. Applications should be submitted to Chris Hurlbert, Chair of the Zero Waste Committee, by email at chur@ucrra.org no later than Tuesday, May 19. Decisions will be communicated on Friday, May 22.

The expected time commitment is attendance at Committee meetings on the second Thursday of every other month, beginning Thursday, July 9 at 5:00 p.m., along with limited preparation as needed in advance of meetings. Members will be expected to participate regularly, engage respectfully, disclose any potential conflicts of interest, and contribute in good faith. The Committee’s work is advisory only, and meetings are conducted as public meetings in accordance with the New York State Open Meetings Law.
