INSTRUCTIONS

DO NOT put home-use medical needles (which includes syringes, lancets, and other needles) in the trash or in the recycling bin.

SHARPS disposal is protected by NYS law – any nursing home, hospital, assisted living facility, etc. must accept sharps from the public for free, safe, anonymous disposal. Please view the list linked below that was updated in 2022. We recommend always calling ahead to get the most updated, accurate instructions for each location.

SHARPS must be maintained and transported in an approved, puncture-proof SHARPS container. These containers can be purchased at most pharmacies.

Please note: SHARPS or medical waste of any kind is expressly NOT authorized for UCRRA’s Household Hazardous Waste collection program.
