Repairing and refurbishing our broken items, instead of replacing them, is a simple way to cut down on waste. Before tossing an item, pause and ask yourself, “Could this be fixed?” A loose handle, torn seam, or broken zipper might be easier to repair than you think! Choosing repair helps keep useful items in circulation, saves resources, and reduces what ends up in the landfill. It also supports local repair shops and encourages a mindset that values taking care of what we already own.

Repair Cafe Hudson Valley is sponsored by the non-profit organization Sustainable Hudson Valley, and offers free pop-up events across the Hudson Valley where people can learn to fix their “broken but beloved” items for FREE, working with expert fixers who are also your neighbors. Repair Cafe Hudson Valley regularly schedules free repair cafe events throughout Ulster County, and each cafe is unique in the skilled volunteers on hand and the various items they can help with. Check their website for more details!
